Saw Announced
Next year will see new title based on the popular horror series.

January 30, 2008 - At Brash Entertainment's recent press event, IGN received word that a game based on the Saw movie franchise is in development. This information was delivered to us through a teaser trailer that featured the Jigsaw puppet explaining that we as game journalists were wasting our lives in the industry -- so we'll take his word for it.

Scheduled for a release in October of 2009, the game will weave in and out of the Saw movie plotlines and will be an intricate collaboration between the development studio and the filmmakers. While this is really all the information we have on the title at the moment, we should note that the game will be running on the Unreal III engine and will likely be released on PS3 and 360.

Come back soon for more information as it becomes available, and head over to the game's official site for future details.

Conflict: Denied Ops
When the US government needs intelligence but wants no association with an operation, deniable operatives are dispatched. Responsible for covert paramilitary actions, the Special Activities Division is a division of the Central Intelligence Agency’s former Directorate of Operations, now the National Clandestine Service. Members of the unit must bear no identity; no objects, papers or clothing that could associate them in any way with their employees...

Conflict: Denied Ops draws its inspiration from this group of highly skilled individuals. An innovative new two player co-op FPS, Conflict: Denied Ops is set in today’s delicately balanced political climate, focusing on two covert field operatives, experts in weapons and military tactics. Conflict: Denied Ops allows players the freedom to switch seamlessly, at any point, between these two operatives to lay down cover fire, explore different paths through levels, create a distraction or pin down the enemy under crossfire.

Why video gamers make the best spies
Have you ever wanted to be a real spy? Well apparently in the UK, if you're a Splinter Cell gamer, you can be recruited as a spy in real time under the British Intelligence. Read below:

Quote:
British intelligence agencies are to offer video gamers hooked on espionage-inspired adventures the chance to live out their fantasies.

Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), the surveillance arm of the intelligence services, will this month become the first spy agency to embed adverts for new recruits inside computer games.

The advertisements will appear as billboards in the fictional landscapes of games including Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent. They will not be written into the games themselves but will be fed into games when they are played on personal computers and Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles that are connected to the internet.

Double Agent, published by the Paris-based Ubisoft, stars Sam Fisher, an American spy who has “little time for polite niceties and even less for lies”. Fisher works for Third Echelon, a fictional hush-hush unit of the US National Security Agency, described as “an elite team of strategists, hackers, and field operatives”.

Ut3 Beta Demo
Hold on to your seats, UT fans. Unreal Tournament 3's PC beta demo is about to be unleashed to the gaming public.

Mark Rein dropped by the UT3 forums to announce that the demo is closing in on release.

So the burning question at this point is: what's this demo going to contain? It's going to allow instant action play against bots as well as online multiplayer, with the purpose being to test the game on a large variety of hardware setups.

Keep an eye out for the demo; Mark says it could come out this week, but it's safer to say it'll be out within two weeks.

Battlefield 3 information leaked
Hold on to your hats, DigitalBattle is reporting that there's been an info leak on Battlefield 3.

The website has received a PDF file containing what appears to be a 3-page document which was prepared to present to investors later this year. Included in the document is a fairly robust feature list.

First off the list is the mention of a 2008 release date, with a possible public beta in summer of next year. The game is powered by "Frostbite DX" and will be returning to the more popular era that Battlefield 2 took place in - modern day - with two playable factions: NATO and the Middle Eastern Coalition.

There are said to be 8 maps, according to the feature set - one titled "Baghdad Burning" - with most of them being Middle Eastern-based urban settings.

New to the series is what will be called "Battalions" - a group consisting of three to four squads. This of course means Squads and Commanders return, as does online stat tracking, which should be more robust with "real world ranks."

Another new addition is listed as the "Solider" feature, which sounds to be something similar to MMO character advancement and avatars. There are of course five playable classes: Sniper, Assault, Engineer, Medic and Support, with 48 vehicles, 34 different weapons and another 22 that are unlockable for a total of 56.

Additional unlocks include ammunition, new types of body armor, helmets, camouflage and accessories.

The document mentions Windows Vista and OS X as operating systems, but that doesn't mean Windows XP is counted out; it also says to expect an announcement and teaser trailer in January 2008, so we'll have to wait and see if this is true or not. Only time will tell.
